Some smart meters will be able to incorporate microgeneration technology, such as solar PV systems. At the moment, a customer’s current tariff and electricity arrangements will dictate what smart meter will be used at that property.
For example, certain smart meters can support prepayment tariffs but could not be used in microgeneration. However, due to the current industry changes new metering technology is being developed all the time.
