10 Mar '10: Why are you charging your customers for having a smart meter fitted? I haven't asked for it so why should I pay for it? What is wrong with my current meter? I think if npower and other energy suppliers force these on us, they should foot the bill.

I'm unsure where you have heard this? We're not charging for fitting smart meters. The only smart meters we're fitting at the moment are part of a number of trials we are currently running.

The installation of smart meters has been mandated by the Government - and it will be a legal requirement to have one fitted. www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/consultations/smart_metering/smart_metering.aspx.

Smart meters will identify areas where savings can be made - saving money for the customer and energy - surely, isn't this a good idea?
