19 Mar '10: The smart meters have many advantages. Are you informing your customers who are fitted with smart meters that their energy supply can be cut off remotely by their energy supplier or anybody else who has access to the meter? Thank you

Smart meter

Although they can be cut off remotely, much like today, there will be very strict rules and processes, which will have to be followed. General access to the meters will be very tightly controlled. At the moment, all energy suppliers are talking to Government, Ofgem (our industry regulator) and consumer organisations to agree the rules and processes that will operate.

It's really important that customers will have to hand all the information they will need about smart metering, including how they operate - and make those all important savings.
