The good news is that you don’t have to have an outside meter box to have a smart meter as they can be fitted in all the places that existing meters can be fitted - under the stairs, in the kitchen or in an outside meter box.
At the moment, the industry is working with the Government to agree the best way to replace every gas and electricity meter in every home but there are no firm details yet. The bulk installation programme is unlikely to start before 2012 but we're running smart metering trials and may be able to support something in your area later this year?
