How do I submit a meter reading to npower?
You can use our online form to send a meter reading. You'll need to have your account number to hand (from the top right of your bill) and the postcode of the property.
Or you can sign up to My npower. You'll be asked to enter your npower account details the first time you log-in. Then next time you want to send us a meter reading, simply log in to My npower and send us your reading from there. We'll automatically remember your npower account details, so you don't have to enter them again.
If you forget your login details don't worry, you can use our forgotten password or forgotten username pages.
If you are having difficulty viewing your bill, have not received one yet or have three or more electricity readings you will need to contact customer services.
Why is my latest bill estimated?
This could be due to a few reasons.
The meter reader may not have been able to access your meter. If it is inside your house, for example, and you aren't in, there is no way to read the meter and a card would have been left for you to fill out or contact us with a read.
The meter reading could have been taken before your billing date. In which case, we would have to estimate the remaining number of days charged.
We check all meter readings we receive from the meter reading agents to make sure they fit with your previous energy use. If any reading looks out of place, we'll replace it with an estimated reading until we get a true meter reading.
Please contact us or use the online form to provide your own meter reading.
How do I take a reading from my prepayment meter?
It’s not always necessary to provide us with a meter reading. We automatically receive a reading when your key/card is charged and inserted into the meter.
If you do need to take a meter reading yourself, if are moving home, for example, please select your prepayment meter type from the following options:
Key meter - electric:
Located on the front of your meter is a blue button. Pressing and releasing this button scrolls through your displays. Each screen can be identified by either a letter or a number depending on which type of key meter you have. The displays start from A and run through to the letter T or from the number 1 through to number 9.
After a few seconds the display will automatically reset to display A or 1 so you may need to repeat scrolling through the screens a couple of times to gain all of the information you are after. Scroll to H or 5 for your meter reading.
Economy 7 customers also need to scroll to J to obtain the night meter reading.
Quantum meter - gas:
Most Quantum meters have a window above the LCD display which shows the meter reading.
Some meters have 2 LCD displays – the left display holds the meter reading.
If you have one of the white Quantum meters with a single LCD display, the meter reading can be obtained by pressing the Red Display button on the front of the meter.
Smart Power meter (also known as Smart Card):
Located on the front of your meter is a blue button. Pressing and releasing this button scrolls through your displays. Each screen can be identified by a number. The displays start from the number 1 through to number 8.
After a few seconds the display will automatically reset to display 1 so you may need to repeat scrolling through the screens a couple of times to gain all of the information you are after. Scroll to 3 for your meter reading.
Economy 7 customers also need to scroll to 3 to obtain their meter readings. The Economy 7 meter will show the meter reading of the register currently in use. The Day (Normal) register is active between the hours of 07:00am and 12:00am (Midnight). The Night (Low) register is active between the hours of 12:00am (Midnight) and 07:00am.
What is the meter read reminder service?
Say goodbye to estimated bills with our meter read reminder service.
If you are an existing online customer and have paperless billing you will automatically receive an email letting you know just the right time to send a meter reading.
Our agents will still require access to your meter to take readings and for safety checks.
You can switch this service on or off by logging into My npower and selecting My Accounts, then Change Account Preferences.
If you're a new online customer, you can Sign up to My npower and enter your account details to activate Meter Read Reminders or Paperless Billing. Once active, we will send you an email just before your bill is due. You then have 7 days to send your readings before we produce your bill.
Prefer to receive a text rather than email? No problem! The choice is yours and can be configured when you log into My npower.
