You can pay for your gas and electricity in a number of ways, and some may even save you time and money!
Paying by direct debit is by far the most popular method as it means you can spread the cost of your bills evenly over the year, so you won’t get lumped with one large winter bill.
Your direct debit payment will be based on how much you have used previously - the amount can change with your circumstances, like moving to a bigger/smaller house, having a baby, etc.
A great bonus to paying by direct debit is that most energy companies offer discounts for paying this way. Here at npower, if you pay by direct debit for 12 consecutive months you’ll receive a £100 discount if you buy both gas and electricity, £40 for electric only, and £50 for just gas.*

Or, for those of you who want to pay quarterly direct debits, instead of monthly, you can read about it here.
Another option is to pay by cash or cheque, which, while it gives you control over when the money leaves your account, you do lose out on the discounts we offer via other payment methods. You may also find that some banks and building societies charge for processing bill payments.
We also offer prepayment meters, which are a great way of controlling what you pay. You just top up and pay for the gas and electricity that you use – just like you would with a pay as you go mobile phone! Prepayment does, however, come with a weekly fixed standing charge.
