Quick links

05th Sept '11: One of my interests is in the area of Very Low Frequency (VLF) RF produced by natural events - thunderstorms and the like. There has been a lot of chatter on the VLF forum all from the US on the interference from some types of smart meter. Now the questions. Has a decision been made on the technology to be used to transmit the meter information back to base? There appears to be two options a UHF RF link or a bi-directional powerline modulation scheme. If the decision is yet to be made is there a method which allows joe-public to voice an opinion?

Hi Mike,

This is a good question but, unfortunately, the Government has yet to decide who the Central Communications Provider will be for smart metering.

This will determine the type of communication protocol that will be used to transmit the information.
