16 Feb: Why do disabled people and people who are on benefits get lower rates? Surely it should be one tariff for all - I myself have 2 children and we both work to make a living and just scrape by, as I am sure many others do. Yet again, the workers who pay into the economy and support the economy pay more. How is this fair ???

Millions of UK households struggle to afford their energy bills and fall into a category known as ‘fuel poor’. The Government has a target to eradicate fuel poverty in all vulnerable households by 2010, and to eradicate all fuel poverty by 2016. www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/what_we_do/consumers/fuel_poverty/strategy/strategy.aspx.

As a supplier, we take our social responsibility obligations very seriously and we're committed to helping the government to meet its targets on Fuel Poverty. Part of this commitment is to help vulnerable people on low incomes.

We understand that all of our customers, regardless of their income and other circumstances, want a range of additional services which can help them cut down their energy use - and lower their bills. We can help here also - we offer free energy efficiency advice, competitively priced tariffs and our £100 direct debit discount. www.npower.com/at_home/applications/DirectDebit/AccountDetails.aspx
