8th Oct: I wish there were more sources of open debate like this in relation to power as it provides a bit of balance. Like many customers I am concerned about rising costs and the impact on my lifestyle however I don't feel it is fair to blame the energy companies alone. Britain has only a fraction of the storage capacity of European neighbours, your own answer suggests Nuclear is less volatile in terms of price than fossil fuels. A new report today suggests we're only eight years away from power cuts, what are we waiting for???

Thanks for your comments David - we're pleased we're reaching people and opening a debate on energy issues.

Building new nuclear power stations is a complex process, which will take a number of years to complete. The first step is for the Government to complete a formal assessment of potential locations, which will continue well into 2010. After that, individual developers like RWE npower will be required to seek planning and other consents, as well as consult with local communities, before we can begin building new nuclear power stations.

In the meantime, we're already in the process of building two new gas fired power stations at a cost of over a £1billion - as well as investing in new offshore and onshore wind farms.
