13 Jul: We have consciously used less and less gas and electricity over the past 2 years yet our bills continue to rise. How can bills continue to rise as we discipline ourselves to use less fuel? You have realised the benefit of cheaper supply yet the bills increase for us. npower’s school report reads ''must try harder''

Generally speaking, the cost of energy has increased for both energy suppliers and customers over the past two years. Our prices reflect changes in the wholesale energy market and this has filtered through to your bills.

This said, we have seen some relatively small, but sustained drops in wholesale prices more recently, and we have passed these savings on to our electricity customers. There has been some media speculation that energy companies have been slow to pass on such savings to their customers, but OFGEM, the energy industry regulator, has issued a report which found no evidence of this.

There are a couple of ways that you could further reduce your bills: you could change the way you pay for your gas and electricity or change to an online account.

You may be able to make further savings through introducing energy efficiency measures to your home.
