I believe the pricing graph created in response to Alyson, East Midlands is misleading. It makes the assumption that prices weren't already too high in early 2007. Plot the same prices starting in 2004 or earlier and the same data tells a very different story.

We chose that particular point in time as it was a reference point continually used by the media. If you took the graph back a further two years, you would see a very similar picture - a significant spike and then a smaller fall in the wholesale price. This was due to Britain's largest offshore gas storage facility being off line which led to high market prices.

Both graphs would illustrate the same activity within the market – a huge peak in wholesale prices reflected by a much smaller peak in our retail prices.
