30 Apr: Why is npower increasing its price per kWh of electricity by almost 50% for Web 14 customers from May 2010? I have been notified by npower that my kWh price will increase from 8.39 to 12.54 pence per kWh. Also, why is npower increasing the fixed daily charge by over 50% for gas customers at the same time? Gas customers will now pay £227-76 par year in fixed charges and this has nothing whatsoever to do with the price they pay for supplies.

We have been told by our regulator Ofgem that we can't continue to offer our introductory/discounted online rates indefinitely. We've written to customers to let them know about the change so they can choose which rate they would like to move to.

We're happy to offer any advice about the best rate for you and your circumstances - including our online offers. Anyone who doesn't express a preference will be automatically transferred to our direct debit tariff, which is the most popular choice.

If you would like to switch tariffs or talk to one of our advisors, please call us on 0845 6720 073.
